A bicyclist was in the bike lane going around a corner as a semi-truck driver cut the corner and side swiped the cyclist. We alleged the driver had failed to stay in his lane. He thought he had given the bicyclist enough room and wasn’t even aware he’d hit
the cyclist until cars honked at him, prompting him to look in his side mirror and see her on the ground. The cyclist had serious knee injuries, in addition to road rash, and underwent knee surgery to repair the damage caused by the negligent truck driver. We pursued the semi-truck driver and the company for compensation for the injured cyclist, including compensation for the loss of enjoyment of riding her bike.

High school kids were gathering at a favorite spot away from the lights, when the driver of the car in which the plaintiff was riding as a passenger accepted a challenge to race a buddy down a long stretch of highway. The cars took off at a high rate of speed
and were flying when the driver of the car in which plaintiff was riding as a passenger lost control and crashed into a tree, seriously injury plaintiff. Plaintiff brought this case against the driver of the car in which she was riding as a passenger and the other driver who challenged him to race. The seriousness of the injuries suffered by the young plaintiff was settled for policy limits. While many insurance policies exclude coverage for racing, we were able to get around that and recover full compensation.

Defendant was texting on her cell phone, not paying attention, when she ran a stop sign near an elementary school and collided into a student who was in the crosswalk. The driver immediately stopped and was apologetic, but her behavior leading up to
the collision was not made okay by her apology after the fact. The young plaintiff recovered fully from her injuries, and we were able to obtain a fair settlement for the child. That settlement was deposited in a blocked account. When the minor turns 18, she can go into the bank, show her ID and retrieve the settlement funds. In extreme need situations, parents or guardians may file motions in court to get the money early, if it can be demonstrated that the money is needed in specific ways for the benefit of the child.
